LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Nov. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Stacie Grossfeld is participating in the University of Louisville's Guaranteed Entrance to Medical School (GEMS) program, designed to help interested and qualified students go to medical school.

The Guaranteed Entrance to Medical School (GEMS) program was first started by the University of Louisville in 1988. The program was initially designed as a pre-med program to attract more talented Kentucky high students to the University of Louisville.

Over the years, the GEMS program has expanded in scope to include a more comprehensive approach designed to help students interested in a medical career achieve their goals. As part of this effort, the GEMS program includes a variety of group activities, volunteer opportunities, and networking.

Students participating in the University of Louisville’s GEMS program also create a GEMS Outcome Portfolio based on the six competencies of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). As part of this, students have the opportunity to do volunteer projects, attend Grand Rounds presentations, observe surgeries, and gain insight into what the daily work of a physician is actually like.

Louisville orthopedic surgeon Dr. Stacie Grossfeld is participating in this GEMS program. Dr. Grossfeld is a board certified orthopedic surgeon by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). She specializes in knee surgery, shoulder surgery, sports injuries, arthroscopy, and other orthopedic procedures. She is also a graduate of the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine and has a keen understanding of all that U of L has to offer.

As part of her participation in the program, Dr. Grossfeld will provide prepared U of L students the opportunity to do surgery observation. This is a very exciting opportunity for students, giving them a real life chance to see and experience a medical career more closely.

The University of Louisville’s GEMS program is only one example of Dr. Grossfeld’s long time commitment to medical student mentoring. In partnership with Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, Dr. Grossfeld also offers interested Centre students the chance to participate in pre med internships during school breaks and over the summer.

As a faculty member at the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, Dr. Grossfeld also offers medical residents training opportunities at Orthopaedic Specialists, her private orthopedic medical practice in Louisville, Kentucky. Orthopaedic Specialists is online at http://www.louisvillebones.com and is conveniently located near Louisville hospitals at 4001 Kresge Way, Suite 330.

She is listed in the Top 10 Orthopedic physicians in Louisville, Kentucky, by America Top 10, and she received the Patients' Choice Award in February 2013.
